Old Mutual show stocks Fleur du Cap trophy cellar

Fleur du Cap has clinched the trophy for South Africa's Best Wooded White Blend at this year's Old Mutual Trophy Wine Show with its Unfiltered Viognier Chardonnay Sémillon Sauvignon Blanc Limited Release 2007. The awards announcement took place in Cape Town on Monday, 1 June 2009.

Fleur du Cap's Unfiltered range, as well as the Bergkelder Selection, took eight additional medals - another gold, two silver and five bronze medals - securing a joint third position in the Most Successful Producer rankings.

The Gold medal went to the 2008 vintage of Fleur du Cap's award-winning Unfiltered Sauvignon Blanc, the first Unfiltered white wine that was released under screw cap.

The Unfiltered Viognier Chardonnay Sémillon Sauvignon Blanc Limited Release 2007 was one of only 14 trophy-winning wines out of the record 1,155 entrants from 257 cellars.

The wine is a blend comprising 25% of each of the white wine varieties. In the cellar, all cultivars were vinified separately and matured for nine months in third fill small French oak barrels.

“This wine with its brilliant colour and golden specs is rich in apricot and orange peel aromas followed by peach and dried fruit flavours on the nose, whilst the palate is clean and vibrant with nuances of vanilla oak ending with a delectable spiciness,” is how Pieter Badenhorst, winemaker of Fleur du Cap white wines, describes his winning wine.

The winning wines can be tried at the Old Mutual Trophy Wine Show tastings to be held in Cape Town on Friday, 5 June 2009, at the Jasminium and Clivia Rooms at the CTICC from 5pm - 8pm and in Johannesburg on Friday, 12 June at the Hilton Sandton from 6pm - 9pm. Tickets are available via Computicket or at the door and cost R100 per person.
