Hat-trick of Double Golds for Durbanville Hills wines
Three Durbanville Hills wines received the Grand d'Or (Double Gold) at the 2015 Michelangelo International Wine Awards: the 2015 Rhinofields Sauvignon Blanc, the 2014 Rhinofields Noble Late Harvest, and the 2013 Durbanville Hills Cabernet Sauvignon.
Gold was awarded for its 2014 Merlot and 2015 Chardonnay from the Durbanville Hills range, and to four wines from the Rhinofields range: the 2013 and 2014 Chardonnay as well as the 2011 Shiraz and 2012 Pinotage.
Cellar master Martin Moore said he was overjoyed that wines from both ranges received top awards, especially the Double Gold for the 2013 Durbanville Hills Cabernet Sauvignon.
"We are delighted that a wine intended for everyday drinking could perform so well at this international competition. The Durbanville Hills range, which was created at the inception of the cellar in 1999, is made up of accessible, food-friendly wines. We believe award-winning wines should be available to consumers everywhere and the Double Gold, achieved by a very popular wine, confirms just that.
"In our Rhinofields range, we combine flavours from opposing hillsides to illustrate our exceptional location. This lends great depth and complexity to this reserve range. The location of our vineyards in full view of Table Mountain and Table Bay offers a diverse landscape with a variety of hills, valleys, soil types and mesoclimates. These factors, together with the exceptional skills of our viticulturists Dirkus Heyns and Henk van Graan, allow us to make such remarkable wines."
All the Durbanville Hills wines are available to purchase from leading wine outlets across the country, the cellar or at www.vinoteque.co.za.
