As part of the build-up activities towards the 2009 “Trade & Investment Africa” Exhibition and Congress, Thebe Exhibitions and Projects will be hosting the first of five African country focus seminars on 20 March, 2009 at the Michelangelo Hotel in Sandton, South Africa.

Focusing on Central Africa, the first gathering aims to provide a platform to specialists and other industry stakeholders to share their knowledge and create increased awareness of trade and investment opportunities available in Central Africa.

The specialists, from the Central African countries, will touch on the various subjects including; some of the trade and investment opportunities available to investors, incentive packages available in the Central African Region to attract investors, emphasis on Government and legislative reform to stimulate international investment, governments support of infrastructure, etc.

“It has been predicted that Africa as a whole will attract some US$300 billion in new oil exploration and production over the next 25 years, and this obviously has implications in a whole host of other sectors.” - Mail & Guardian

In light of the current economic crisis, Central Africa has apparently remained a highly profitable investment ground with an abundance of natural resources across the various central African countries such as Cameroon, Central Africa Republic, Chad, Congo, Equatorial Guinea and Gabon. Cameroon is the largest economy in the grouping (US$12.5bn in 2003), and also has the largest population (16 million), whilst the Central African Republic (CAR) has a GDP of a little under US$1.2bn and Equatorial Guinea a population of only half a million. Moreover, the rate of economic growth in the region is markedly different - with the CAR averaging minus 1% growth over the last four years, compared to Equatorial Guinea's average of nearly 22%.

The remaining four African country seminars will focus on North Africa, West Africa, East Africa and Southern Africa respectively and will be held on dates stipulated below.
