The New Raw: Plastic waste as the new raw material
By investigating the emerging fields of digital fabrication and material resourcing, a Greece-based initiative called The New Raw hopes to change people’s perception of plastic waste. Founded in 2015 by Foteini Setaki and Panos Sakkas, the program tries to raise awareness and educate the public on the issues of waste overproduction and the potential benefits of digital fabrication.
Through workshops like RE_STOOL, a compression stool made of plastic waste; MISSING PART, a construction material made of plastic; PET for pets, 3D-printed shelters for stray cats, The New Raw hopes to encourage participants to find sustainable solutions to plastic waste.
