UCT Online High School reopens 2022 admissions for 500 learner placements

It has been widely reported that traditional schools in the Western Cape are oversubscribed leaving more than 29,500 learners without a school to attend in the 2022 academic year. The statistic was disclosed recently by the Department of Basic Education during its parliamentary presentation on preparedness for the 2022 academic year.

To combat the current schools' admission crisis, and for a limited time only, UCT Online High School has opened another 500 placements to the public for the 2022 school year beginning in January. Last month, UCT Online High School officially closed its applications and began placing any new applicants on a waiting list. With the 500 additional placements, the waiting list will now be removed, giving applicants an opportunity to apply and pay their placement fee directly. While UCT Online High School would like to give all applicants entry, placements are on a first-come first-served basis and will not reopen once these spots are filled.

“As we near the end of the final application verification process, 500 spaces have now opened up and we are thrilled to be offering these spaces at a time when we know there are children who still don’t have a school for 2022. As an online school we aspire to turn physical limitations into digital opportunities for Africa’s children to access aspirational, quality secondary school education. It gives us great pleasure to know and see that we are bridging a real gap in the system,” says Yandiswa Xhakaza, UCT Online High School’s first director and principal.

Applying to the UCT Online School is a simple process. No documents are required, all a parent will need is their child's latest report on hand to complete the application process:

  • Guardian registration
  • Learner registration
  • Select a start date
  • Pay the R200 application fee

Once they have completed their application, they will receive a conditional offer letter or they will need to complete a special academic review assessment. If they receive a conditional offer letter, they will need to settle their placement fee of R2,095 promptly. This fee will also cover their first month's tuition.

The UCT Online High School offers a CAPS-aligned curriculum and enables Grades 8-11 learners from around the globe with the opportunity to study at a monthly fee of R2,095, making it one of the most affordable private schools in the country. Grade 12 will be offered from 2023. Learners will benefit from the UCT Online High School's supported self-discipline model. This allows learners to pace their learning and get high quality 1:1 tutoring from UCT Online High School's fully-equipped staff complement of over 300 expert teachers and support coaches whenever they need it.
