The annual SAB Environmental Media Awards and Environmentalist of the Year 2017 is open for entries. The awards, now in its 29th year, were started by the late conservationist Dr Ian Player to recognise members of the media who have excelled in reporting on environmental matters in video, audio and written media as well as photography over the past year.
The Nick Steele Memorial Award for Environmentalist of the Year acknowledges individuals who have gone above and beyond to look after the environment.
The categories for the SAB Environmental Media and Environmentalist of the Year 2017 are as follows:
- Written Media Award (print and online)
- Photography Award (print and online)
- Video Media Award (television and online)
- Audio Media Award (radio and online)

“Over the years, these awards have served as a window to the state of the environment in South Africa and we look forward to seeing, hearing and reading this year’s entries,” says Robyn Chalmers, director communications, AB InBev Africa and SAB.
Members of the media and the public can also motivate their nominee for the Environmentalist of the Year via the website. Entries are open and will close at 5pm on Friday, 1 September 2017.
