SAMSA to launch careers expo and jobs summit during maritime week
According to Ports and Ships website, the South African Maritime Safety Authority (SAMSA), the Department of Labour and the KwaZulu-Natal Department of Economic Development and Tourism, are hosting the South Africa Maritime Industry Careers Expo and Jobs Summit in Durban's Moses Mabhida Stadium from 25 to 28 September.
SAMSA CEO Commander Tsietsi Mokhele says that even though up to 98% of trade between South Africa and its partner countries is seaborne, "maritime career opportunities remain largely untapped due to lack of awareness amongst South Africans," Mokhele says.
The expo supports the national government's New Growth Path (NGP) to create 5 million jobs over the next 10 years and reduce unemployment by 10%. The expo's job summit will inform learners, school leavers, job seekers, teachers and educators of opportunities in the industry, Ports and Ships website reports.
