The newspaper quotes Cosatu's spokesman, Patrick Craven who says that the union's members will down tools in protest over various issues including the use of labour brokers and the purchase by WalMart of Massmart.
Labour analyst Andrew Levy says that calls by Cosatu for mass action are not unusual but warned that workers are tired of losing money when called upon to stay away from work so this year's mass action might not be particularly successful.
