    Security sector incensed over legislation changes

    Business Day says sweeping changes to legislation governing the ownership of private security companies are contained in a bill amending the Private Security Industry Regulation Act that will see the extent of foreign ownership being limited to no more than 49%.

    Police Minister Nathi Mthethwa says that companies such as ADT, Chubb and G4S will have to comply with these regulations but will have five years to do so. There are more private security officers employed in South Africa than there are police and soldiers combined, reports Business Day.

    Security companies have bemoaned the fact that they have not been consulted on the proposed changes and Martin Hood, an attorney acting for the Private Security Industry Alliance says companies are "incensed and furious" over the proposed legislation, according to Business Day.
