Samsung South Africa has announced an exclusive agreement with DStv to offer consumers increased freedom and mobility to enjoy broadcast TV entertainment.
As consumers continue to demand engagement across multiple platforms, GalaxyTablet and Drifta Mobile decoder for Android bundles are made available through network operators and leading retailers, and will also include a three-month DStv Mobile subscription at no additional cost.
"This partnership enables us to offer a mobile broadcast entertainment experience, in line with our philosophy to assist consumers to enjoy a more connected lifestyle," said Craige Fleischer, director: mobile communications of Samsung SA.
"With the popularity of tablets continuously increasing, and as the demand for communication mobility grows, this partnership will further enhance our unique multimedia offering, allowing consumers to watch their favourite show or support their sport team, wherever they are."
The Drifta for Android is a mobile decoder that enables access to DStv Mobile channels using select Samsung tablets. The Drifta for Android will be bundled with select Galaxy Tab and Samsung Galaxy Note tablet devices.
Another step in our journey
"This limited-edition bundle with Samsung is another step in our journey to bring the exciting realm of mobile television to more South Africans," said Mark Rayner, CEO of DStv Mobile. He added that the Drifta for Android utilises Digital Video Broadcast Handheld (DVB-H) technology, offering improved digital sound and picture quality.
Rayner explained that access to television content via multiple devices such as tablets is, in fact, stimulating the medium by creating additional opportunities to view content, keeping consumers engaged and enabling them to watch television regardless of location.
Fleischer said that this solution is another opportunity for Samsung to continue to grow partnerships with service providers, as well as continue to offer flexible and innovative solutions to meet changing consumer needs. "Watching television has evolved beyond the living room and a single screen is no longer the norm, which has resulted in an increased appetite for mobile television in South Africa. As a result, offering a solution in association with the market leader in this field was a natural fit and continues to position Samsung as a market innovator in mobile technology collaborations and offerings," concluded Fleischer.
