Fin24 further reports that the survey was conducted among 715 participants aged between 16 and 35 in Johannesburg, Cape Town and Durban townships. It showed that 55% of respondents had a Facebook account while 50% had MXit accounts.
Ikapadata survey shows Facebook was used by 79% of people in the affluent LSM 8-10 sector, followed by 67% in the LSM 6-7 and just 46% in LSM 4-5. In terms of Internet usage, 26% of respondents used mobile phones exclusively to connect to the Internet, while 20% used computer exclusively.
