iPhone 4S disappoints, Samsung declares war

Now, Samsung has unleashed a range of court applications to effectively ban sales of the new iPhone 4S in France and Italy claiming that the phones contain at least two patent infringements related to its wireless technology.

Apple has rejected an offer from Samsung's Australian operation to settle the tablet computer battle in that country, damaging the commercial viability of Samsung's Galaxy there.

However, Samsung's James Chung says that Apple is flagrantly violating its intellectual property rights and getting a free ride on the technology that Samsung had developed.

And the battles don't stop there: Apple and Samsung are fighting each other in court battles in the United States, the Netherlands and South Korea and both companies have sued each other in 10 countries since April this year.

Apple claims the Samsung Galaxy copied its iPad and iPhone while Samsung says that Apple has not paid licensing fees for its patents before it started selling the iPhones in 2007. Apple counters this allegation by saying that Samsung only demanded licence fees from 2010.

Sales of the Galaxy have been blocked in Germany and some of Samsung's smartphone models have been prevented from being sold in the Netherlands.
