Visitors to the exhibition will be able to have a peek at the next-generation low-cost mini-computer board, the Raspberry Pi 2. The Raspberry 2 multiplies performance and delivers more than six times the processing power and twice the memory of previous models.

The new generation credit card sized computer board has significantly upgraded capabilities, with faster processor cores and double memory capacity, including the Broadcom BCM2836 application processor that contains a powerful ARM Cortex-A7 quad-core CPU running at 800MHz.

The increase in processing power makes it a sure favourite of hobbyists, hackers, students, home application developers and businesses who are able to design the product in at the core of their businesses as it will enable them to develop more powerful applications that will run faster.

The Raspberry Pi was initially developed with the idea of increasing the number of students interested in the computer science field when they get to University level, by generating an interest in the subject from an early age. The success of the product far exceeded every expectation. The product is now not only used in business or for hobbyists but is also being used for skill development purposes and to help young children learn to do maths, or for science and technology projects on top of teaching young children how to program.

RS has played an important part in the adoption of the first generation Raspberry Pi platform by many users in academic and consumer circles, as well as industrial applications as they are a key distributor and promoter of the product across the globe. The company's online resource and design support for engineers, DesignSpark, often includes information, tips or updates on the Pi.

The Raspberry Pi 2 can be ordered via the RS website.
