Thousands of jobs may be lost

Employment levels in South Africa fell by 0,4% in July and resulted in annual job losses this year of 270 504 permanent and 79 380 temporary workers according to an article published on Fin24.

It quotes Adcorp as saying that at least 468 192 jobs would be lost in the remaining months of 2011 and 2012. Adcorp says that while jobs were being lost in the private sectors, the government employment levels continued to rise, going up by 1,4% in July.

Fin24 quotes Loane Sharp, Adcorp's labour market analyst as saying the public sector now accounts for all of the job creation in South Africa. Moreover, unofficial employment levels were also rising.
