SAPS: South Africa's most corrupt State department
The South African Police is seen as the most corrupt government department with most people being prepared to - or having already - paid bribes to them according to research by Transparency International published in Business Live.
The survey was conducted in six southern African countries and according to its findings more than half of those that had contact with the public service were asked to pay a bribe in the past year. On a positive note, according to the Business Live report, more than 80% of people said that they were prepared to get involved in the fight against corruption.
