Three provinces on verge of collapse

According to a Times Live report, a looming economic crisis in Limpopo, Free State and Gauteng has forced the National Treasury to provide billions of rands to prevent a collapse of these provinces.

Times Live reports that cabinet spokesman Jimmy Manyi released a statement saying that Limpopo had asked the Treasury to provide it with an extra amount of about R1-billion because it had used up the R757,3-million overdraft facility, while Gauteng needs about R627-million to pay for salary increases but also faces large financial accruals and a significant mess in its billing system. Manyi did not say how much money Free State needed.
