Tender winner gives big at ANC party

An Eastern Cape transport company that secured a multimillion-rand tender just five months ago was one of the main donors at an ANC fundraising dinner recently.
Tender winner gives big at ANC party

The Bus and Taxi Business Chamber, whose business arm One Future Development 46 secured a R206m scholar transport tender earlier this year, forked out R150 000 for a table at the dinner.

Role players in the transport industry questioned Tandiswa Marawu's position as both ANC treasurer and MEC for the Eastern Cape department of transport, claiming this might affect their chances of ever securing the lucrative scholar transport tender.

Bus operator Yandisa Mfeya said: "This is Mafia style, definitely. One can say, even when [One Future Development 46] was awarded this tender, there was a clear intention.

"All of us are ANC members and supporters, but certain people are put at an advantage."

However, ANC provincial secretary Oscar Mabuyane said it was unfair to judge people who secured government contracts and, out of "love for the ANC", donated "a little" to the party.

"The ANC did not demand money from people and give them tenders."
