Load shedding to continue
"Eskom will implement stage one load shedding at 10.30am due to a shortage of generation capacity. This will continue until 10pm," said the power parastatal.
Acting Chief Executive of Eskom Dan Marokane said: "As previously indicated, the grid will be under pressure for the current week resulting in a high risk of load shedding."
Stage one of load shedding allows for up to 1,000MW to be shed off the grid, while stage two allows for up to 2,000MW to be shed. Stage three of load shedding allows for up to 4,000MW to be shed.
On Tuesday, the power utility called on consumers to urgently switch off geysers, air conditioners, pool pumps and all non-essential appliances throughout the day to reduce electricity demand.
On Monday, consumers around the country experienced stage one load shedding, which was later upped to stage two load-shedding.
The utility also advised consumers to check load shedding schedules, which are available on the Eskom website (http://loadshedding.eskom.co.za). Consumers can also contact the customer call centre on 0860 037 566, while municipal customers are urged to contact their local authorities.
Eskom will provide regular updates on the status of the power system throughout the day.
