Back-to-back wins for Crawford in BDO schools quiz

In the annual BDO schools quiz, Crawford College, La Lucia has taken the top spot for the northern Durban area, for the second year. There are 36 Durban and Pietermaritzburg schools taking part in the competition this year in four round robin regional contests ahead of the final round when the top two teams of four Grade 10 or 11 learners from each school pit their general knowledge skills against one another.

Stuart Davis, Agnes Gosnell, Sanam Lakhani, and Laërika Subramoney, were delighted with their win and are looking forward to taking part in the championship round of the competition to be held at Clifton College on 5 May, along with the second-placed Maris Stella team.

The quiz champions earn the right to nominate a disadvantaged school to win R10,000 of books. BDO has teamed up with independent bookstore, Books&Books again this year, and a new sponsor, Kip McGrath education and learner enrichment centres.

Sally Juckes, Audit Partner at BDO, said that this was a challenging competition, which gave participants the opportunity to move out of their comfort zone and broaden their minds, whilst having fun. “It also gives them the chance to make a big difference to underprivileged children attending poorly-equipped schools and makes them aware of the challenges facing those who are less fortunate than they are and what can be done to help them.”

This is the seventh year that this quiz is being organised by the Durban office of BDO South Africa, audit, advisory & tax firm.
