Webster Mfebe appointed executive director of SAFCEC
Before joining SAFCEC, Mfebe was executive director: stakeholder relations at construction company Basil Read between October 2009 and March 2012, and also served as a non-executive director of TWP. Between March and December 2012, Webster was MD of his own company, Phendula Consulting.
SAFCEC is a not-for-gain employers' organisation constituted in terms of the Labour Relations Act.
Mfebe said that his main focus is to align SAFCEC's mission with the current trends in the civil engineering industry.
Renewable energy projects
"We are looking forward to a number of civil engineering projects that could come from renewable energy projects." New power stations, PRASA, Transnet and Sanral are expected to bring renewed growth to civil engineering.
"The strategic infrastructure projects and improved budget spend that the government has planned for middle 2013 will hopefully see tenders awarded in a more efficient and fair manner, with contractors able to deliver on time and within budget," said Mfebe.
Mfebe has also made his mark in top positions in the mining industry, as a trade union activist, the broadcasting industry, and in politics, notably the Mass Democratic Movement (MDM) and the ANC.
He holds diplomas in human resource management and international trade - obtained in South Africa and the UK, respectively - and is currently pursuing an MBA with Heriot-Watt University in the UK.
