    Empower Shack long-listed for RIBA International Prize

    Located in Khayelitsha, Empower Shack - an Urban Think-Tank project - has been long-listed for the 2018 Royal Institute of British Architects International Prize - awarded to a building which exemplifies design excellence, architectural ambition and delivers meaningful social impact.

    According to U-tt.com, the project aims to reshape the approach to informal settlement upgrading by offering an innovative and inclusive methodology for the fair distribution of public space, delivery of basic services, and an urbanisation scheme that combines housing upgrades with a safer urban environment and new economic and social possibilities.

    The long-term goals are to influence a new direction in housing policy and offer much needed diversity and access to housing for the gap market.The 2018 RIBA International Prize winner will be announced December 2018.
