Geely introduces LC Cross range
Since launch the LC has proven itself as a popular, dependable, cost-effective motor vehicle. Now, the LC Cross offers buyers the opportunity to experience the same attributes as in the LC, but with added equipment, ground clearance and a bold new look.
When the LC was introduced in 2011, it set new standards for vehicles in its price bracket, thanks mainly to comprehensive safety and convenience features. The LC Cross continues in this tradition, and boasts an impressive equipment list, especially considering its price. Items such as ABS brakes with electronic brake-force distribution, six airbags, electric windows and mirrors, remote central locking, audio system, power steering and air conditioning are all standard in the flagship model, though even the entry level GS sports most of these items.
Styling is more business-like
The LC immediately drew attention among the public due to its unique styling, which has been likened to the look of a panda bear. The LC Cross features similar dimensions, but considerably more macho lines. The front grille, for instance, seems much more business-like, compared to the 'smiling face' of the LC. Similarly, the slightly increased ride height of 160mm gives the new vehicle a purposeful look, which is further enhanced by the spare wheel mounted on the rear hatch. This hatch opens upward, with the spare wheel in place, making access to the luggage area easy despite the position of the spare wheel.
The new LC Cross shares its engine with the LC range, namely a four-cylinder, normally aspirated petrol engine with a displacement of 1 342 cc. This in-line motor features 16 valves activated by a double overhead camshaft and electronic fuel injection. It is mated to Geely's 5F 5-speed manual transmission, which drives the front wheels. Power is 63 kW at 6 000 r/min and the engine has 110 Nm of torque available at 5 200 r/min.
The prices range between R91 990 and R104,990 including VAT. Body colours for the new vehicles include Pure White, Moonlight Silver, Lucky Red, Lemon Green, Wheat Yellow, Brown Black, Dream Blue and Fashion Orange. A 36-month or 100 000km factory mechanical warranty, with included AA Roadside Assistance is standard across the range.
