Ramsey's double break

Arsenal's teenage Welsh sensation Aaron Ramsey has undergone surgery for a double leg break following his gory injury against Stoke City yesterday

“Aaron Ramsey sustained fractures to the tibia and fibula in his right leg. Yesterday evening he underwent surgery,” the club said in a statement on its website www.arsenal.com.

Ramsey, 19, was given anaesthetics to reduce the pain before taken off to the pitch-side ambulance. The injury was caused by a tackle by Ryan Shawcross, who issued a statement on the club's website saying:

“There was absolutely no malice in the challenge. I would never, ever go out to hurt a fellow professional.

“I am deeply upset that Aaron has suffered such a bad injury and my thoughts are with him. I would like to send him my best wishes too for a speedy recovery.”

Shawcross was called up to the England team for the first time by Fabio Cappello for the friendly against England and Egyt

Despite the injury, Arsenal came out tops on the day by first conceding, then coming from behind to take the game 3-1.
