Inaugural Cape Town World Music Festival

The first annual Cape Town World Music Festival will be held on 9 and 10 November, 2012, at a variety of Cape Town venues. The accessible inner-city festival will showcase the best in world music in a format designed to enlighten, entertain and engage.

The festival is designed for enthusiastic fans of the genre, but also hopes to attract a new culturally curious audience. Cape Town will experience 32 acts over two days, on four unique stages, each showcasing diverse music from across the globe.

From traditional and roots music to world dance music and modern world adaptations from all continents, the festival will cater to all music lovers.

The festival will also host a series of music and industry workshops leading up to the main event at multiple venues around Cape Town, including Harrington Square, the Assembly and the Mahogany Room. The festival will feature:

• A main day/night live music stage for both local and international artists
• A daytime free stage and an intimate acoustic/listening space
• A late-night Nu World dance stage featuring the best of world dance music
• A local craft market, food stalls and bars

Workshops and talk conferences will take place from the 6 to 8 November at the Mahogany Room featuring: Oliver Mtukudzi, Pops Muhamed, Evan Milton, Siyabonga Mthembu (The Brother Moves On) and more. Details coming soon. Workshops are free to the public on a first-come, first-served basis.

• Saturday: R250 - All Stages
• Full weekend: R320 - All Stages
• Friday night: R80 - Nu World Stage only
