Michael Lowman launches debut album

Taking over a year in the making, Michael Lowman has released his debut full-length album, "Crayon Boxes". Recorded by Grammy Award-winning Daryll Torr at Openroom Studios in Joburg, "Crayon Boxes" is an intricately woven tapestry combining equal parts folk, blues and pop. A gifted storyteller, Michael Lowman has artistically pieced together the story of his life into a body of work that is heartfelt, honest and captivating.

"I don't think that there's enough of this kind of music anymore," said Lowman. "I don't think there's enough of the singer-songwriter who's sincere, with no gimmicks, just a story."

Lowman's journey to the release of his first record has been long and winding. Having moved to the US in 2009 after being signed by indie label Authenik Artists, he recorded his debut EP with producer Mark Needham (Fleetwood Mac/The Killers). His EP landed him a number of high-profile TV placements, including a song on the Kardashians' show Kourtney and Khloe Take Miami. A vsa complication sent Michael back to South African shores.

A top-five hit

Beginning work on "Crayon Boxes" at the beginning of 2013, Lowman's star has been steadily on the rise with the debut single, Your Lovin' Ain't Right, becoming a top-five hit on 5FM, reaching number two on Jacaranda FM and number one OFM.

"Crayon Boxes" moves between shades of introspection, adventure and hope. Drawing from a colourful range of experiences - from coping with the loss of his father at 10, to moving to the US and falling in, and out of, love - his unique take on his experiences creates something easily relatable and authentic.

"Crayon Boxes" is out now in stores and on iTunes.
