The road will be temporary closed because of the major construction work that will be undertaken on the bridgehead on East Road, including the removal of the bridge’s beams.
The 60-year old bridge was structurally damaged a year ago when an overloaded truck hit its beams.
Motorists are advised to make use of the Golden Highway, which runs parallel to the N12, as an alternative route.
The Gauteng Department of Roads and Transport has apologised for the inconvenience to motorists.
