Workshop will focus on new BEE codes

The Minister of Trade and Industry recently announced the publication of Draft Amendments to the BEE codes. These are stringent amendments which will affect the current BEE status of all companies.

For instance, only certificates of value added enterprises (VAE's) will qualify for BEE procurement points, and BEE scores will need to be higher in order to achieve required levels and status will automatically drop two levels if the sub-minimum criteria for ownership, skills development and supplier development are not met.

In order to influence the final version of the amendments, Owen, Adendorff Associates (Pty) Ltd will be facilitating a Techni-Sem Workshop to advise and assist clients on the matter. The workshop will unpack the proposed amendments, discuss the critical issues, note the responses to these issues and agree on a way forward to submit influential comments to the Department of Trade and Industry.

Open to non-clients

With only a 60 day window period in which to influence the final version of the amendments stakeholders are encouraged to adopt a concerted and strategic approach. Winston Owen, head of Owen, Adendorff's BEE team recommends that all affected companies should become familiar with the Draft Amendments, and make use of the opportunity to comment. "Such is the potential effect on the BEE industry and the entire economy, that we have decided to open up the workshop to non-clients."

The Techni-Sem Workshop takes place on Tuesday, 6 November at the Royal Durban Golf Club. For more information contact az.oc.bewm@ofninedanewo.
