Union slams violence by strikers

As the strike in the metal and engineering industry continued into its fourth day on Thursday, the Steel and Engineering Industries Federation of SA said it was increasingly receiving reports from its membership of serious incidences of violence, intimidation and other forms of unacceptable behaviour being perpetrated by groups of striking workers, reports Business Live and IOL.

Widespread reports of intimidation and violence have been reported at companies predominantly in Gauteng as the strike by the National Union of Metalworkers continues. The Steel and Engineering Industries Federation of South Africa says that member companies report that at least one worker who refused to go on strike was killed while other workers have been beaten and intimidated.
