Organisers of the forum - the world's largest meeting around water - expect 25000 participants this year, including representatives from more than 180 countries, 140 ministerial delegations and over 800 speakers.
The World Water Forum is held every three years as part of the build-up to World Water Day, a United Nations initiative celebrated globally on March 22 each year. The forum's goal is to tackle water challenges the world faces and raise the importance of water on all political agendas. At the forum, Page said, the DWA will showcase the strides South Africa has made in water policy development and implementation, in influencing local, continental and global water agendas, and in sharing the country's initiatives with the world.
"It is also an opportunity to take lessons from other countries," Page told Engineering News. SA delegates will strive to "enrich the international debate, to contribute to discussions leading to resolution of water management challenges facing developing economies and to market South Africa to the international community," she concluded.
