What's wrong with smoking dagga? My friends pressure me to smoke with them, how can I refuse? Everybody in my family drinks; why can't I drink?
These are some of the first questions young people posted on the Department of Health's new interactive B-Wise mobisite, on which they can access information, support and expert advise on topics such as sex and health, teenage pregnancy, and substance and alcohol abuse.
Minister of Health Aaron Motsoaledi unveiled the site in Soshanguve, north of Pretoria, on Thursday, 20 August 2015.
Information on the site is tailormade for youngsters, between 10 and 24.
The site, developed by the Praekelt Foundation, is available in English or Zulu, and more languages are to be added.
Answering a questions on drinking, posed during the site's testing, Motsoaledi said: "Everybody in your family is doing something wrong and you are the only normal person in your family."
"We want to empower the young to make choices that will move them away risky behaviour," Motsoaledi said yesterday.
The Times tried to register on the site but registration was closed without explanation.
