Scheme's angry response to Consumer Commission

The National Consumer Commissioner Mamodupi Mohlala has been accused of not appreciating the complexities of the medical sector by Monwabisi Gantsho head of the Council for Medical Schemes. In an article published in Business Day Gantsho says she should "focus her attention elsewhere".

Mohlala has already crossed swords with representatives of the telecommunications and property sectors and Business Day says that more conflict is likely to erupt in October when the investigation into the hospital sector is completed.

Last week Mohlala told a broker conference that a preliminary investigation into five of South Africa's biggest medical schemes found that they were all contravening sections of the Consumer Protection Act.
