Clicks supports the Journey of Hope
Monday, October 13, 2008; October is breast cancer awareness month in South Africa and to build awareness of this silent killer a group of twelve women have embarked on a cross-country journey from Johannesburg on October 11th, to Cape Town on October 18th on Harley-Davidson motorbikes spreading their message of hope. All twelve women are survivors of the illness, and most are not motorcycle riders in their day to day lives. They have called their journey the Journey of Hope and their aim is to raise money for breast reconstruction operations for twelve less fortunate cancer survivors who would otherwise never be able to afford reconstruction.
A number of sponsors have come on board for this worthy cause; one of which is Clicks who recently donated R100 000.00 towards the reconstruction operations. The twelve women who will be the recipients of the sponsored operations will be selected once the Journey of Hope is complete.
Clicks is proud and privileged to be a part of this campaign and to have been given the opportunity to make a real difference in the lives of these brave survivors. Cancer touches the lives of so many women and their partners / children in SA but yet there is still so much that many of us do not know about the disease. Number one being that education and early detection saves lives. The message that Journey of Hope is carrying is that there is hope after diagnosis - these women are living proof.
Throughout the month of October Clicks will be offering free breast exams at Clicks Pharmacy Clinics to help women take control of their breast health. Book an appointment with the Nursing Practitioner at a Clicks Pharmacy Clinic.
