A Stikeez situation

Pick n Pay and specialist industry editor and columnist, Louise Marsland found themselves in a Stikeez situation on Friday...

Marsland retweeted a link to a blogger's post about the teeny rubber toys called Stikeez that PnP are giving away with every R150 spent. In response, the retailer responded by telling her to delete the tweet because it was "highly inappropriate" content. Read her follow-up article on how to blow up your brand in five minutes.

Speaking of brands, the finalists for the 17th edition of the Sunday Times Top Brands Awards 2015 have been announced.

Making international headlines: Dr Christo Wiese, chairman of Shoprite Holdings and Pepkor Holdings, is the first retailer from Africa to be inducted into the World Retail Hall of Fame. The ceremony will take place in Rome at the World Retail Congress next month.

And breaking news in the e-commerce space: Amazon has announced the opening of an Amazon Web Services office in Johannesburg, with plans to hire over 250 highly skilled candidates in the next 12 months...
