Maize futures end higher ahead of crop report

SA's maize futures ended higher on Monday as traders awaited the monthly report on the status of the country's maize crop.

The Crop Estimates Committee will on Tuesday release the fourth production forecast of summer crops for this year.

Last month‚ the estimate for maize output was 9.76-million tons.

The white maize contract due for delivery in July 2015 was up R35 to R2‚871 a ton and the white maize contract due for delivery in September 2015 climbed R29.80 to R2‚897.80 a ton.

In yellow maize‚ the contract due in July 2015 lifted R12 to R2‚461 a ton and the September 2015 contract added R17 to R2‚502 a ton.

The wheat contract due for delivery in July 2015 was up R17 to R3‚860 a ton and the September 2015 contract was up R1 to R3‚867 a ton.
