On 26 January 2017, the Association of African Exhibition Organisers (AAXO) held their very first ROAR Organiser and Exhibitor Awards at the Ticketpro Dome, Johannesburg. With 330 guests attending; exhibitors, organisers, suppliers and media industry executives joined a team of judges to celebrate industry successes of 2016.

National Geographic has partnered with Academy award-winning executive producer, James Marsh and Tigress Productions on a three-part special based on unseen footage of the gorilla researcher, Dian Fossey. Dian Fossey: Gorillas in the Mist will be narrated by Sigourney Weaver who played Fossey in the 1988 film, Gorillas in the Mist.

The Boma – Dinner & Drum Show has relaunched its food offering under the guidance of celebrity chef, Arnold Tanzer. Original Mason's was officially unveiled at The Deck Rooftop & Pool Bar at Cape Quarter Lifestyle Village on 14 December 2016. The tropical inspired party featured colourful lanterns and flowers, complete with Mason's pool boys, Mason's mixologists and DJ Dino Moran.
