The 2013 African Legends parade down memory lane

Did you see the legendary Nyami-Nyami sailing its way through the corridor of Somerset Rd or the beautiful Queen of Sheba swerving sleekly through the crowd of eager carnival spectators?

The 4th annual Cape Town Carnival once again lit up the beautiful Mother City with its kaleidoscope of colours incorporated into designer costumes and floats that provided for a vibrant affair.

Well-known South African artists, including the likes of Lloyd Cele and Claire Phillips fired-up the festivities in true carnival spirit and DJ Ready D entertained the crowd at the after party.

The parade kicked - off, after the warm welcoming and opening of mayor, Patricia de Lille, with the crowds counting down the much anticipated event, calling upon the African Legends to make their way from the Fanwalk through the corridors of Somerset road and making their final bow at Green Point.

As promised the 2013 Cape Town Carnival theme, The African legends, took their spectators back in time, when they visually told old folk stories that we grew up with. The crowds were treated to a spine chilling showcase of beautifully costumed dancers, magnificent floats and music that had the crowd moving to its beat. The City united as one, as each celebrated their culture and heritage, while learning about those of others and embracing our diversity.

So if you need to add to your bucket list, The Cape Town Carnival is a must. Here is where the lost gets found. As for the Flying Dutchman, you can tell Captain Jack Sparrow where the real one can be found - It was last seen in the streets of Cape Town.
