The power utility said Govender, who has been at Eskom for a total 27 years, will leave the utility at the end of October.

Govender, who is also acting group executive of risk and sustainability, has held various positions in Eskom, such as being a member of the Eskom executive committee (Exco), as well as various sub-committees thereof.

He has also held the position of director of Eskom Enterprises; a member of the board of the Rotek and Roshcon Group (an Eskom Enterprises subsidiary) and chairman of the Council of the Eskom Academy of Learning, among others.

Eskom is a member of the GO15, an organisation that represents the largest grid operators (GO) around the world. In October 2017, Govender was appointed as president of the GO15 steering board for 2017/18.

Eskom’s group chief executive, Phakamani Hadebe, has thanked Govender for his efforts in helping to stabilise Eskom and wish him well in his new endeavours.

His successor, said Eskom, will be announced in due course.

Last week, Eskom’s Rotek Industries’ chief executive officer, Johnny Dladla, resigned.

Dladla, who has 23 years of experience, is set to leave Eskom’s subsidiary at the end of October to pursue private business interests.
