The department said on Tuesday (6 August 2013) that since no conclusion has been reached yet, the two companies, Smit Amandla Marine - under investigation by the Hawks - and the Sekunjalo Consortium - under investigation by the public protector - have as good a chance as the other four companies.
The department has confirmed that the other four bidders are P&O Maritime, South African Vessel Management Services, Tswelopele Ship Management Consortium and Nautica SA.
