Road maintenance creates 13 000 jobs

Over 13 000 jobs have been created through the government's road maintenance programme, according to a report published by Fin24. It says that most of the jobs were created in KwaZulu-Natal, followed by Mpumalanga.

However, the target was to create more than 68 000 jobs that would focus on repairing and maintaining secondary roads around the country.

Fin24 quotes the Department of Transport as saying that 510 988m² of road surfaces have been resealed and 321km of rural roads re-gravelled under the programme.
