Newcastle wants iPads to improve efficiency

It says that Newcastle's mayor, Afzul Rehman will provide the devices to all 61 councillors, who will be able to access all council documents, including detailed information on tenders. The council is still getting quotes to buy the devices, the most basic model, at a cost of R4750 each.

According to Times Live, Rehman says that he estimates the costs at about R500 000 but will save costs and improve efficiencies of councillors who represent a population of more than 330 000. About 120 agendas related to council business are produced each week and distributed to councillors, about 30 municipal officials and the local media.

According to the Times Live report, he says that councillor will be able to view the agendas, previous minutes, budget and tender information and any other relevant documents
