Social network users must be vigilant, cautious
While social media networks such as Facebook and MXit are a cheap and fast method of communication, parents should take care that the services are not abused according to Leon Pearlman, chairman of the Wireless Application Service Providers Association.

An article published on IOL quotes Pearlman as saying that the social network services have a "dark side" and that parents need to monitor what their children are doing when on the social networking sites.
He says that reports concerned the so-called Facebook Rapist are an indication of the way that social networking sites can be abused.
Over the weekend Thomas Bester was arrested by police on charges of raping, abusing and killing women that he allegedly met using the Facebook site before luring them to meet him where they were allegedly raped.
Pearlman warns that it is an unavoidable part of social networking sites and urged people, particularly parents, to be vigilant about activity on these site, particularly among teenagers.
