On Friday, 17 May 2013, a total of 1800 blankets were received at Carnival City, and these will be handed out over the next four weeks. Recipients will include HIV/AIDS orphans, abandoned and homeless children, child-headed and underprivileged families, and homes for the elderly.

According to Carnival City's CSI chairperson, Mduduzi Madonsela, "When most of us feel the chill we are able to put on warm clothes, turn up our heaters or put an extra blanket on our beds. But for these youngsters this is an untold luxury. Many have no families and are reliant on caregivers and people who take pity on them.

"Over the years, we have built up strong relationships with the Ekurhuleni communities. They are important to us and we continue where we can to improve their lives."
