Fledgling IP firm is Africa's 'Firm to Watch 2017'

Intellectual property magazine, Managing Intellectual Property named Rouse Africa the winner in the “Africa - Firm to Watch 2017” category of its annual global IP awards. One of Rouse Africa's directors, Maura Canavan, attended and accepted the award at the ceremony held at The Savoy in London on 9 March 2017.

Rouse Africa was one of five IP firms nominated for this award. Launched on 5 October 2015, Rouse Africa is the most recently established firm out of the five.

Rouse Africa specialises in trademark, copyright, patent and design services in Africa. It is a joint venture owned by South African IP law firm, Von Seidels and international IP firm, Rouse. Rouse Africa’s head office is in Cape Town.

Von Seidels and Rouse both won awards at Managing Intellectual Property’s global IP awards in 2013. In fact, the firms first met at the 2013 awards ceremony in London and the idea to work together in Africa was born there.

Director, Bastiaan Koster, commented “We are absolutely delighted to see Rouse Africa develop from a late night idea with Rouse while celebrating our respective successes at the Managing Intellectual Property 2013 awards ceremony into a fully-grown award winner itself four years later.”

Rouse Africa offers direct intellectual property services in ARIPO, Namibia, Nigeria and South Africa with plans underway to open offices in Kenya, Cameroon for OAPI and Mozambique.
