Gauteng police spokesperson Colonel Noxolo Kweza said police had been looking for Thando Mvelazi since last year.
Mvelazi was eventually arrested in Soweto on Wednesday.
"At the moment he faces two murder charges, two attempted murder charges, charges related to five ATM bombings and a hijacking," Kweza said.
This includes the murder of two police officers and the attempted murder of another two.
Mvelazi is expected to appear in court soon.
