The meeting is aimed at charting the way forward on what needs to be done with all colonial statues in the country, Minister Mthethwa's spokesperson Sandile Memela said.
"The narrative must move beyond statues as this matter is about stumbling blocks to nation building.
"We must use the existing legislation to guide us in transforming the heritage landscape of our country," Minister Mthethwa said.
The meeting will be attended by political parties, student leaders, university vice chancellors, academics and civil society organisations.
About 200 guests are expected to attend the meeting on Friday from 8.30am until 6pm.
