Namibia stages investment seminar in Joburg

The Namibian Government is set to stage an investment seminar in South Africa to showcase investment opportunities in the country and to diversify trade with the rest of the world. The seminar, to be hosted by the Ministry of Trade and Industry of the Republic of Namibia in collaboration with the High Commission of the Republic of Namibia in South Africa, will be held on 2 July, 2013, at the Gallagher Convention Centre, Gallagher Grill, in Midrand, Johannesburg.

The Namibia Investment Seminar aims to showcase foreign direct investment opportunities in key enterprise areas, including mining, agriculture and agro-processing, logistics, manufacturing and education.

Namibia, with significant natural resources, a stable economy and rapidly modernising infrastructure, presents numerous investment opportunities, said the Trade Ministry. Diamonds and uranium account for the bulk of the country's total export revenue. Namibia is also rich in a variety of other minerals, with over 30 different commodities produced from around 40 formal mining operations.

Mobilising national efforts

In addition, Namibia's Minister of Trade and Industry, Calle Sclettwein, has noted that his ministry is actively mobilising national efforts towards the achievement of the 4th National Development Plan (NDP 4) goals of increased and sustained economic growth, employment creation and a reduction in the gini coefficient.

In line with this, the Namibian Investment Seminar, to be addressed by the Deputy Minister of Trade and Industry of Namibia, Tweya Tjikero, will inform potential investors and business partners of:

  • Investment opportunities in the agriculture and agro-processing, logistics, manufacturing, education and mining and energy sectors.
  • The investment policy framework of Namibia.
  • Incentives for investors.
  • Information on starting a business in Namibia, including company registration, permit facilitation and final establishment.
  • Namibia as a strategic, stable and conducive investment destination to penetrate the broader SADC Market.
  • Current economic performance and future outlook of Namibia.
