Rand update
The rand has opened at R15.55 this morning, slightly weaker than yesterday's and Friday's stronger closing levels, as the dollar trades flat against its major peers. Trading is expected to be very quiet this week, with liquidity on the thin side.
Metal prices all closed a touch firmer yesterday and are trading flat this morning except for Palladium which is down by 1.0%. Gold is quoted at $1,811, Platinum at $974, and Palladium at $1,956. The price of oil continues to rise as Omicron fears subside. Brent is sitting at $78.72 and WTI at $75.77.
The DXY index sits unchanged at 96.08, with the dollar trading flat against the euro and Pound at 1.1328 and 1.3440, respectively. US bond yields are a touch lower at 1.88% for the 30y-yield and at 1.47% for the 10y-yield. US equity futures have opened marginally softer while Chinese stocks are weaker, but Japan's Nikkei closed 1.0% stronger.
