Banks to dump Financial Sector Charter?
South African banks are likely to ditch the Financial Sector Charter and discussions over the charter are taking place through the Banking Association of South Africa according to a report in City Press.
The intention to abandon the charter was apparently communicated to Finance Minister Pravin Gordhan at the Banking Summit held in Rosebank in August according to City Press. It says banks are drafting an alternative blueprint for transformation that will be presented to the minister.
City Press says banks will have to commit to doing more in terms of skills development, employment equity and preferential procurement than they are currently doing.
