Undisclosed hi-tech tools may halt rhino slaughter

The poaching of rhinos in game reserves across the North West province could soon be a thing of the past, provincial Parks and Tourism Board CEO Allan Losaba said, if a suggested hi-tech anti-poaching partnership between the provincial government and an American business delegation materialises, The New Age reports.

Speaking during a meeting with a six-member delegation of US businessmen at the Pilanesberg National Game Park, Losaba highlighted the need for law enforcement agencies, information management and security related measures to be fully regulated and controlled as part of an implementation plan to overcome the scourge of rhino poaching. "We need everyone on board [as well as the] political will to stop further illegal killing of rhinos," he said.

The delegation expressed interest in the creation of a partnership to support the provincial government and the country's conservation and anti-poaching strategies. However, The New Age says, details could not be immediately divulged as engagements are still ongoing among concerned stakeholders.
