Building on university’s longstanding scholarship and education on Africa, the Harvard Center for African Studies fosters the creation and dissemination of knowledge about Africa and African perspectives across the university’s Faculty of Arts and Sciences and Professional Schools.
The programme was established in 1979 to address specifically the inequality and discrimination that existed in South Africa’s education system. Since its inception, the cohort of Harvard South Africa Fellows has grown to a community of over 200 Fellows who have subsequently forged careers in the public and private and NGO sectors where they all contribute their skills to building a better South Africa, Africa and global community.
